Privacy policy

Screo is built to be local-first. This policy is short because there isn't much to disclose: Screo has no backend of its own and never collects, transmits, or sells your content. There are two disclosed exceptions — in-app purchases, validated through RevenueCat, and this website's own visitor analytics — both covered below.

What Screo doesn't do

  • No account or sign-in is required to use Screo.
  • No screenshots, recordings, or OCR text are ever uploaded to a server — Screo doesn't have one.
  • No analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs are included.
  • No crash reports or usage data are sent over the network.

What stays on your Mac

Captures, recordings, and your local history are written to disk on your own Mac (by default under your Pictures/Movies folders and the app's own local storage). Your preferences are stored using standard macOS app settings (UserDefaults). None of it leaves your device unless you explicitly copy, save, drag, or share a file yourself.

Purchases

When Screo has a paid plan, in-app purchases are handled by Apple's App Store and validated through RevenueCat, which tells the app whether your licence is active. This is the only thing Screo sends over the network. No account is created — RevenueCat identifies the install with a random ID, not anything about you — and your screenshots, recordings, OCR text, and history are never part of it.

Website analytics

This marketing site (screo.app) — not the Screo app itself — uses Plausible for basic visitor counts (page views, referrers). It's cookieless, doesn't collect personal data or IP addresses, and can't track you across other sites. The Screo app has no analytics of any kind — this only covers people browsing this website.

On-device processing

Text recognition (OCR) runs entirely on-device using Apple's built-in Vision framework. No image or recognized text is sent anywhere to be processed.

System permissions

Screo asks macOS for Screen Recording, Microphone, or Camera access only when you use the specific feature that needs it — never all at once, and never before you've asked Screo to do something that requires it. You can review or revoke any of these at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
